Fellowship Program: 1 & 2 year Tracks
SUNY DMC has one of the oldest geriatric psychiatry training programs in the country. Established in 1984 under the leadership of Dr. Carl I. Cohen, a nationally known educator and researcher, the program has graduated over 70 fellows. The program has more than 20 faculty members and 7 clinical sites. Our comprehensive, public psychiatry-oriented program includes:
* Acute in-patient treatment
* Intermediate care treatment
* Nursing home care
* Consultation-Liaison
* Outpatient treatment
* Alzheimer’s Center
* Specialty rotations in geriatric medicine, neurology, and palliative care
* Home visits and community education
* Medical student and resident teaching, administrative training, IT training, courses in school of public health
* Research training and travel to academic meetings
* Numerous case conferences, a journal club, and 48 didactic lectures. Fellows work closely with geriatric fellows in medicine and dentistry.
There are two tracks:
* One-year clinically oriented program that includes rotations outlined above.
* Two-year program funded by HRSA that includes clinical rotations, rotations geriatric medicine and dentistry, participation in research and special teaching programs, and a MPH degree.
Salary: One-year track: $61,000 to $72,000. Two-year track: up to $115,000.
